Scott Reid

PhD Economics, 1996

Since leaving Edinburgh (1996), have made a decent living passing myself off as an economist in the real world.

First port of call was Ofwat, economic regulator of the water industry in England and Wales. I did lots of things including tariff policy, demand forecasting and modelling, and price limit determinations. I worked with a number of excellent economists who were focused on making economics real. It helped me make lots of great contacts and paved the way for a move into economics consulting, which I have been doing since 2000. Do I regret leaving academic life? Not ever. Now have 3 kids (10, 7 and 4).
