John Sawkins

MA Economics and Accounting, 1989

Following graduation in 1988 (MA Economics and Accounting) I spent a year with the Royal Bank of Scotland in Wilmslow, Cheshire, before returning to Scotland for postgraduate study.

As one of the first cohort of students on the Scottish Doctoral Programme in Economics I spent one year at Glasgow University studying for my MSc, and then another two at Edinburgh to complete my PhD.

In 1992 I got my first full time lecturing job at Aberdeen University, then moved back down to Edinburgh in 1995. I am currently a Reader in the Department of Economics at Heriot-Watt University and a member of Waterwatch Scotland, the consumer watchdog for the Scottish water industry.
