
The Department of Economics at the University of Strathclyde, home to the Fraser of Allander Institute, has an outstanding reputation for applied policy-relevant research in economics. We have a very active PhD programme in applied economics where we support our PhD students to both achieve excellence in rigorous research, and reach beyond the confines of academia to realise the impact of that research through joint collaboration and engagement with policymakers and industry.
Research Strengths
We have expertise in Applied Micro- and Macro-economics, Applied Econometrics (including Bayesian Econometrics), Energy and Environmental Economics, and Economic Policy. The Department is home to the Fraser of Allander Institute, Scotland’s leading independent economic research institute.
Entry Requirements
We look for a strong first degree in Economics, or a degree in which economics was a major part, and a Masters degree in Economics that includes training in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics, as well as the completion of a dissertation.
If English isn't your first language, an IELTS score of 6.5 is required.
